Our Story

“MapleStone Farm, LLC” is the location of two distinct operations that compliment each other, the Premier Accredited therapeutic riding and driving center (TRC) and a non-profit special purpose school for students 13-19 years of age, called “MapleStone”. Volunteerism and education are uniquely integrated. Students who are enrolled at the school are partnered with horses that serve therapeutic riding participants from Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The physical, emotional, and mental benefits of relationships between people and horses are enormous and have been well documented.
MapleStone Farm, LLC represents the realization of a dream, to serve youth in need of special services, that began 30 years ago. This location was secured by Nils and Pat Pearson in 1987 and has served as the site of a special purpose school involving horses since 1997. Keith Davis, executive director, leads dedicated staff at MapleStone to offer alternative approaches to traditional education and the delivery of academics in all subject areas through theme-based hands-on learning. Students in the animal science/farm management program develop multifarious equine skills that they will benefit from, for a lifetime. In addition to an animal science theme, the school offers instruction in carpentry, mechanics, forestry conservation/environmental science, outdoor challenge ropes course, and art. Access to technology in a computer lab, reading with a literacy professional, and access to an on-site, licensed counselor is provided. Click on the Maplestone School tab for further information about the private school.
